The total number of used vehicles imported to New Zealand last February was 13,841, an increase of 30.8% compared to January 2017. The figures also show an increase of 16.4% to last year’s February when 11,887 used vehicles entered the country.
The figures of January decreased by 12.5% compared to last month. However, they do show a healthy growth of 9.8% compared to January 2016.
The total amount of used cars imported to New Zealand in December (12,242) decreased by 8.9% compared to last month. Despite the decrease in the last month of 2016, the total number of used cars imported to New Zealand in 2016 was a record breaking number.

With no significant rule changes in New Zealand, their import industry remains strong.
The consecutive increase of imported cars, fell this month. UK car imports only amounted to 126 in total this month, the lowest for 2014.
With the continued increase in used passenger vehicles being imported into New Zealand this month, industry sources have predicted a slight decline for car imports in the coming months. Their predictions are based on dealers looking to reduce stock, before importing more vehicles.
The total number of used passenger vehicle imports into New Zealand, remains high, with a consistent monthly increase. This year, so far New Zealand has imported 42,274 vehicles. In April, alone 13,109 used passenger vehicles were imported. This accounts for a 16% rise compared with March figures and a 48% rise compared to April 2013.
As previously reported 2013 witnessed Holden, otherwise known as General Motors and Ford, announcing that they were going to shut down their Australian car manufacturing industry. The head of General Motors International Operations admitted that manufacturing cars in Australia was “impossible” regardless of any assistance provided by the Government.
