The total number of used vehicles imported to New Zealand last February was 13,841, an increase of 30.8% compared to January 2017. The figures also show an increase of 16.4% to last year’s February when 11,887 used vehicles entered the country.
The figures of January decreased by 12.5% compared to last month. However, they do show a healthy growth of 9.8% compared to January 2016.
The total amount of used cars imported to New Zealand in December (12,242) decreased by 8.9% compared to last month. Despite the decrease in the last month of 2016, the total number of used cars imported to New Zealand in 2016 was a record breaking number.
The future of the controversial LCT will be decided early 2017. The Government is considering to abolish the tax and whether exemptions should be made for efficient passenger vehicles.
